About Us

Hello and welcome to my website! My name is Ashley Gannon-Minard. I am the certified hula hoop instructor, hoop making extraordinaire and founder of Hoop For A Better Tomorrow.  I started this organization with a mission to help change the lives of my community in the same ways hula hooping did for me. Over the last 4 years, I have taught thousands of people how to hula hoop, mostly those who had only unsuccessful attempts before!  It’s not just about being able to “do it” (waist hoop) its all about the magical mind body and spiritual connection you experience as you discover how to fluidly move with you hoop, rather than against it.  This magic is known as achieving a “flow state,” where your body takes over and you feel the motion above all other aspects of the experience. Your mind learns to take a back seat and allows your body to become one with the movement of the hoop.  Personally, this aspect of hula hooping not only changed my life, helping me to flow more within my day-to-day life, but it also taught me how to love myself and my body exactly how I am. I discovered a confidence in myself that I had never felt before, and it was all thanks to this sacred circle.

With Hoop For A Better Tomorrow, I customize my teaching to meet the needs of all of my students in each of my classes. Having my Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Math Education gives me the tools to be able to modify and personalize my teaching modalities and I pride helping each of my students learn at their own pace and in their own way. It’s all part of their own personal journey. I teach three 8 week adult hoop dance fitness series on Wednesdays at Arlington High School’s Continuing Education program.  From 530-630pm, I teach a combined intermediate and advanced class, which is perfect for anyone who knew more than the basics.  For anyone who has never hula hooped before, or who struggles with basic, fundamental hoop tricks and moves, my 630-730pm beginner hoop class is before for them.
